I’m Windows. I’m MAC. I’m Android. Who's a Linux?

No technology blog will be complete without a mention of the intense competition between Google, Microsoft and Apple. These are the top 3 operating systems providers.

Google is famous for search. Consequently, everyone says “just Google it” in relation to finding information online. The parent company Alphabet also created and maintains the Android operating system. This is widely used on smartphones and tablets.

Microsoft provides the Windows operating system and is the widely used by governments, businesses and consumers across the globe. If you have a desktop or laptop there is a high chance it is a Windows device.

Apple is the maker of MacOS and iOS. While their products are expensive, users swear by their build quality and support. Their customers often wait outside the store, for days before the launch of a new device. The intense customer loyalty and advocacy has even led some people to describe it as a cult.

Now most people may have heard of these before. But, what’s Linux? Linux is actually free, open-source operating system. This means the world-wide community created and contributes to its development. It is not driven by corporate entities with the sole purpose of making high profits. However, the downside to this is that support is up to the community which is relying on the goodwill of others.

As a result, most people tend to favour the other operating systems since those are less technical and support is much better. You would normally find Linux users to be coders or persons in IT, but some Linux systems are more user-friendly such that people may use it on old machines that cannot run the latest Windows or Mac version.

Which is your favourite operating system? Would you consider trying another?
