3 Key Things With Computer Shopping
There are almost a dozen or more computer manufacturers in the world. So not all computers are the exact same. With big brands like Apple, Dell, HP and Sony dominating markets across the globe. There are other lesser known manufacturers like Asus, Leno I and Toshiba (now defunct due to intense competition). Of course each manufacturer had a range of models to choose from. Choosing to buy a computer from along this range can become confusing. So let's take a look at the 3 key things to look for.
Your needs
Basically what are you going to use the computer to do? It may not make sense to use a ferrari to go grocery shopping and it certainly won't help you carry 4 kids to football practice.
So first assess what you are going to use it for. Is it to stream movies, play games, editing documents or ruin specialised software like those in the engineering field?
The more intensive the task the more resources like cpu ram and storage you need.

Form factor
Are you going to use it on the go or only at home? This really narrows the range of models. Nowadays most Laptops have the power to easily do the basics tasks like browsing the net n playing videos but the screen size can be limiting. It all depends on what you need.
Based off your needs you can now look at the specifications of the computers you intend to purchase.

CPU Processor
A cpu is like the engine of the computer. So a faster cpu like 3.5 ghz would be like the ferrari engine while a 2.0 ghz would be like a average sedan. The cpu cores are like the engine cyclinders, more cores mean better performance with certain applications.
Storage
The more ram you have the more applications you can open safely. It acts like a temporary buffer holding data for the stuff you're currently using. The more stuff it can hold the more responsive your computer.
Similarly the more storage you have the more files and data you can store. So your files and pictures of your trip to Tobago can be saved here.
The difference is this isn't temporary like ram. When you shut down the computer your data remains. With ram when you shut down that data is lost. When you save to your hard drive the data is written from ram to the hard drive so you don't have to manage ram.
What brand computer would you buy if you had a million dollars?

Next time I am computer shopping, I would be sure to let the sales persons know that I do not need a Ferrari to go grocery shopping. lol. Very useful information.

DeleteI had an Asus gaming laptop. Failed motherboard after a year, junk. Stupid crypto miners blew GPU prices and Ram to high. Thank God for pre-built gaming rigs. recommend you check them on Amazon.

DeleteWhat are your thoughts on the Acer Touch Screen Aspire R 14?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a good device for personal home use. The 14 inch screen is a decent compromise for a convertible. Not too small yet not too big.
